Biker Church
Posted by Bryan

Church in the Wind is a biker church that originated in Denver and how has a growing national presence. Here's a story about the ministry from five years ago, that I had originally linked to, but have had to update because of the change to archives. It's interesting to read a story with this perspective of time because now I can better see the impact of the vision of the pastor who helped launch this ministry.

We have the potential for an effective biker ministry in our own community. Every week, our downtown welcomes many bikers to an area restaurant known for being biker-friendly. This restaurant is basically three blocks from the church. It would be awesome to be known as a church that is as biker-friendly as the restaurant where they congregate. All we need is people willing to bridge the gap between those three blocks.

This may be where much of the future of kingdom growth takes place. Not necessarily in biker communities, but in affinity groups. People are organizing around scrapbooking, biking, bicycling (also another opportunity for us nearby), hearing loss, and virtually every other interest under the sun. The church should not always try to be an alternative option to those groups, but should instead look to insert an influencer into those groups to redeem them for God's purposes. The end result is not that we'll have "bicyclers for Jesus," but just bicyclers who belong to Jesus...or scrapbookers or whomever.

What are your affinity groups that you can influence for God's purposes?
