I spent my first day at the Missions Conference being held at FBC Canton, Georgia. It was a very good day.
I felt a little silly when we, the missionaries, were being introduced to the congregation (about 1000 strong on this Wednesday night). We walked on to the stage and a prerecorded announcement of who I am and what I do was played, and the crowd screamed like I just sunk the final basket to send the Missionary Mudhens into the Elite 8 against Bama. I felt entirely unworthy. Especially in the company of other folks who have given so much more for so much less for the sake of the Kingdom.
Highlights of the time: a missionary who speaks only Russian came and sang Jesus, Lover of My Soul in his native tongue, and was then joined by the worship leader who sang it in English. Then he sang in Russian, and all of us echoed in English. Powerful.
Robb Zinn, pastor of Highlands Baptist Church in California preached and had some good words. One of the best things he said was simply this:
He spoke on Matthew 28. He spoke on Acts 1:8. He illustrated how the rest of Acts proves Acts 1:8. He talked about how Acts highlights the salvation of the Ethiopian eunuch, Paul, and Cornelius. Salvation is available to all people. These three men were saved through the faithful witness of a deacon, a layman, and a pastor respectively. God will use everybody, if we are just available to be used!
A good night indeed, and I'm looking forward to returning for day 2!
