He Fought the Good Fight
Posted by Bryan

Yesterday, I was in the airplane returning home, and while I was on my cell phone trying to make sure I'd have a shuttle waiting for me, I read on the ever-changing screen of the Verizon seat-back phone that Army Ranger Pat Tillman died in combat in Afghanistan. Amidst the personal calamity of all that yesterday entailed, I was compelled to pray for his parents and his brother, who as far as I know, continues to valiantly serve in a similar capacity.

I'm thankful for his sacrifice, as I am for all our troops whose lives have been given in the name of freedom.

Why does Tillman get attention that has not been equally lavished upon all others who have given equal sacrifice? Perhaps this gives insight -- his decision to give was completely volitional (not influenced by economy, family obligations, or other factors -- it appears to be clearly and solely at the motivation to protect and defend the ideals that define America), and the media publicity of the enormity of his choice was sounded over and again. Finally, and most importantly, his choice is all the more admirable when evidence proves his uncommon valor.
