More than Friends
Posted by Bryan

Who knew that Chandler would come out of the closet and move to San Francisco with Gunther, Joey & Phoebe would move in together, and Monica & Rachel would kill each other in a surprise Tarantino-eque knife fight, sending Ross to the asylum?

Oh...you didn't see it? I didn't mean to spoil it for you.

Anyway, here's a little more stuff you may not have known:

  • Actors who wer originally considered for the roles in Friends include Tea Leoni as Rachel and Jeneane Garafalo as Monica and John Cryer as Chandler.

  • Courtney Cox is reported to be the first person to say the word "tampon" on an American Television commercial.

  • Lisa Kudrow was hired -- and fired -- as "Roz" on Frasier before becoming Phoebe Buffay.

  • In 1994, Jennifer Aniston hedged her bets by also co-starring in the slightly less-successful sitcom Muddling Through, about the hilarious hijinks of a redneck white-trash woman who has been released from prison after shooting her philandering husband two years earlier. Aniston played said woman's adult daughter, complete with hillbilly twang.

  • David Schwimmer will direct episodes of Joey starring Matthew LeBlanc in the eponymous spin-off.

  • In an alternate universe, Rachel says yes....to Chandler!

  • The Friends stars (not including "Gunther") have parlayed their decade-long TV success into 44 movies (an average just over 7 each, with Aniston in 11, and Leblanc only in 3), netting a total of $1.4 billion in box office. By sheer numers, Courtney Cox is most bankable, while Matthew Perry is least.

Now, isn't your life complete?

If you have any friendsignifica of your own, please share.

I wouldn't figure Matthew Perry would be last. Courtney had the Scream movies to help bolster those numbers.

Was Lisa's hiring and firing before or after appearing on Mad About You as what would become Phoebe's twin sister?
