Taking the trash to the curb this morning, I found my lawn littered with white squares of paper. Upon closer examination, I discovered 24 dew-soaked Georgia lottery Pick 3 tickets.
I gathered them, for a moment considering throwing them immediately away on the principle that the lottery is really a tax on the poor.
But that moment passed.
I figured that it was at least worth a look to see if any of these damp scraps held a key to a monetary reward. For if it would, surely the rightful owner would soon be looking for it, right?
And I'm all about the other person on this.
So being the good Samaritan that I am, I brought the stack of receipts into the house and went to the Georgia lottery Website. Apparently, with the Pick 3, any combo of the winning three numbers could be a winner. But on the "straight box" option, you had to get them just right. If you do on a $1 bet "investment," you would have a payout "reward" of $500.
The winning numbers were 761.
Out of 24 tickets, there were 0 winners.
I suppose its better this way....now I don't have to explain the highly believable story of "lotto tickets as manna," nor do I have to weed through all the people claiming to be the original owners once my story got out.
Once again...don't pay Lotto. You'll lose in the end.
