Vehement Spittle
Posted by Bryan

I've signed up to play a season of fantasy football in a league comprised soleley of bloggers. By doing so, as Kelli has astutely observed, we have found a way to take the dorky art that is fantasy football and elevate (or is it submerge) it to whole new level of dorkiness.

My team name is Vehement Spittle. That alone ought to be worth a victory or two. We shall receive our rosters soon, via an automated draft. I did the important work of making sure that Ricky Williams is my #1 pick, just in case it turns out this entire "retirement/is he on drugs/is he gay?" thing is all a ruse toward some dramatic return/attempted social message. That's a good strategy, right?

I've not participated in a NFL FFLeague since 1998, when I was in seminary and won the league title as the Marauders, a far less imposing name than Vehement Spittle. But then again, this was in a league where a guy intended to draft Neil O' 'Donnell, then the QB of the Steelers, but instead drafted Chris O'Donnell, then the Robin of the Batman movie franchise. I'm expecting this league to be a little better informed.

Culling through the position rankings, I've come to the profound reality that my most valuable Bronco this year will be Jason Elam, the kicker. This is my way of saying that I'm realizing that the Broncos will likely stink this year. But, as I said to my bride, this will not make me any easier to live with as they lose each game. I still go in to every season with the unrealistic expectation that they will go undefeated and destroy their Super Bowl opponent. Anything less is an absolute failure.

Oh, and I suppose this is my unofficial notice that a certain percentage of my blog posts between now and the end of the regular season will be boring, self-indulgent reports on the exploits of Vehement Spittle. Thank you for understanding.

And remember, Ricky really worked out hard this offseason. I think he would make a great pick for you to make.
