second-hand emmys
Posted by Bryan

I heard recently that the ratings for this year's emmy awards were horrible. I'm sure its because folks caught wind of my real-time blogging effort and thought "why bother watching when we can read about it from Bryan?"

In reality, I suspect it has to do more with the fact that cable programming tends to dominate the winner's platform, and with cable only penetrating 80% of the TV market, and HBO only capturing 10% of that 80%, then suddenly, you've got the recipe for an award show for programs that nobody has seen, won by awards that nobody knows very well, thanking people that nobody knows at all.

Despite their futility, I've had referrals from folks looking for emmy content about James Spader, the crazy foul-mouthed Strich lady, Ty Pennington & Drea, someone who wanted to know about Ty Pennington's date (was it Drea?), the "worse dressed at emmy awards," and the 2004 emmy awards itself.

I clearly just write for the people.
