Last Saturday night, the kids and I stumbled upon "The Ten Commandments" on ABC. We hit the "info" button on our TV remote to see that the show was on from 7:00-11:45. Wow, almost five hours! I love "The Ten Commandments" but didn't know if I wanted to give the whole evening to it. But, we started watching it.
The kids quickly realized this was a story they actually knew. (Thank you Sunday School!) Kaylyn took the lead and would tell Cotter and Kelsi periodically what was about to happen. Of course, I had to throw in my two cents every once in a while and say, "That's not really how it happened," or "The Bible doesn't say that at all." But, overall, the kids were really enjoying it.
Fast forward about 3 hours. The kids are still watching the movie. We've had popcorn, and have changed into our pajamas. We're all curled up on the couch, and I'm loving the whole experience. Then we finally reached the point that the kids were waiting for....the burning bush.
They watched in amazement, and even quoted God when He said, "Moses, take off your shoes, for the ground on which you stand is Holy." (Thank you Experiencing God Musical!) Then the sweetest thing happened. Kelsi Girl started asking questions about God. She asked:
-- Does God want to talk to me with a bush?
-- Should I find a bush that is on fire so God will talk to me?
-- If Moses kept his shoes on, would God have talked-ed to him?
-- I really want God to talk to me. Will he talk to me?
-- Does God want me to watch sheep?
-- Does God want me to do what Moses just did?
And, she went on, and on, and on. I answered every question she asked, and by then, we were already through most of the plagues. She was mesmerized by the thought of God acutally wanting to talk to her.
Of course, Cotter's response was, "Kelsi, God will talk to you when you learn how to read. Because he does his talking through the Bible, and you have to be able to read the Bible to hear him. But, I'll read it to you, if you want." (Thank you Mrs. Clark! (kindergarten teacher))
Around 10:30, Kelsi fell asleep in my arms. Cotter lasted until 11:00, but Kaylyn made it all the way through the whole movie. She loved it. She said, "I feel like I learned something about the Bible after watching that." What a great response. I only wish Bryan had been home to experience it with us.
So, to answer Kelsi's question, Yes, God wants to talk to you!
