I can only assume the Pope is thankful he doesn't live in Florida, much less the United States.
UPDATE: Sean expands on this, in the same spirit of snark.
As does The Rooftop Blog.
March 30, 2005 9:28 AMWow. You're implying the Pope is a vegetable, just because he has a feeding tube? That's pretty harsh.
Posted by: Dan at March 30, 2005 4:44 PMNo, Dan, I'm implying somewhat the opposite, that in America, that life is considered without value if a person is required to be nourished by a feeding tube.
Terri is not a vegetable. She is a human being, whose life matters. Just like the John Paul II.
Posted by: Bryan at March 31, 2005 8:36 AMI have good news for you, Bryan. In America, the presence or absence of a feeding tube does not determine whether a life has value. Americans have largely reached the conclusion, however, that life in a PVS need not always be preserved through feeding tubes. Do you disagree with that conclusion?
Posted by: Dan at March 31, 2005 1:20 PMI would agree that *some* Americans have agreed that this is the case, and have inappropriately acted upon that belief in a manner that resulted in the inhumane torture and death of Terri Schiavo. Unfortunately...tragically...we will never know the truth about how Terri herself felt about the matter.
