Okay, yahoos and kudos to Joychenna, I guess.
My whole problem with the Amazing Race, which as a whole I really enjoy, is that teams that have lost a stage end up winning. To me, that ultimately means that the best teams lose.
Chip & Kim...lost, only to win.
Freddie & Kendra....lost, only to win (or maybe not...but I really disliked them).
And of course, the victors tonight should have been eliminated in the first hour.
Romber didn't need the win and they'll make their money back on the rights to their wedding video to be aired in a few weeks, plus the likely merchandising to accompany it...so again, yippee skippee for the winners. I think from now on, though, let's just introduce more teams into the mix so that every week, Darwin's Best Evidence has to go home. No more pity parties, begging, or nonsense of this sort.
Oh, one other thing...never have I been so disappointed to see a team that I initially rooted for make me so happy with their implosion than I did with Ron and Kelly. Goes to show you that even a heroic, honorable POW can be disrespectful and uncouthe. And Kelly....well, she went from being (in my estimation) a beauty queen to a diva to a selfish brat to a desperate housewife-in-waiting. And I was embarrassed for them.
Finally, I'm ready for the All-Star edition...now I've not watched the first four seasons, so I can't pick from there, but I'm all for taking the top two teams from the first 7, and maybe 2 more wildcards...and let the Most Amazing Race begin.*
*I offer this suggestion, fully aware that TAR8 will be a family follies that will likely be known as the pock on the shiny complexion of this reality TV franchise.
"the victors tonight should have been eliminated in the first hour."
Silly Rabbit, if you're a TAR fan, you KNOW that there are ALWAYS 3 teams in the final race to the finish line. We knew the first "checkpoint" was just a pause in the action to let them rest overnight.
No one was going to be eliminated, and you should've known that from the start.
Posted by: Kyle at May 11, 2005 2:44 PMI knew they weren't going to be eliminated...it doesn't change the fact that they *should* have been eliminated.
I'm also in principle disagreement over the "great equalizers" where strategic efforts to gain advantages are lost over closed gates and hours of operations. I know that's "part of the game," but it doesn't mean I have to like it.
Posted by: Bryan at May 11, 2005 2:49 PMThat's Philiminated, please.
I forget that people don't automatically know that the top three go to the finish. ECD expected Uchenna and Joyce to get Philiminated in Jamaica, mon.
I admit to being disatisfied with the HoOp bunching in the last leg, as well. No production designed bunching should occur in the last leg - at that point teams should be made to equalize themselves.
Posted by: jen at May 11, 2005 3:55 PMAMEN, Sistah!
Posted by: Bryan at May 11, 2005 4:51 PMPEOPLE, PEOPLE PEOPLE!!!
They HAVE to do the "equalizers" or the show would be BORING.
Some team would be up by 2 days by the end of the race. Think that would make for good TV?
Posted by: Kyle at May 12, 2005 1:59 PMIt would if they made the "philiminations" more exciting...like dropping the last place finishers into a pool of sharks with laser beams attached to their foreheads.
And the thing is, they wouldn't have to do it every week...just often enough to motivate the group even more.
And as an aside...what was up with the brothers looking like 70s porn actors? I was embarrassed for them. The other night, I saw one of the brothers on a re-run of Fear Factor and he got booted for not eating the nasty whatever in time...and then wanted to fight the host over whether or not he broke the rules...so, the bros. apparently are searching for fame or fortune or both, and reality TV is their chosen career to accomplish this goal.
Posted by: Bryan at May 12, 2005 2:15 PMI am glad that Uchenna and Joyce won. Rob and Amber lied and cheated and don't get me started on the other two.
It's like a guy who carries a microphone stand around while he sings, never letting it touch the ground...let it go.
Posted by: Matt at May 13, 2005 9:24 AMGood thought on Ron and Kelly. I enjoy this show for the most part.
