I came out of a meeting today and bumped into none other than Steve Urkel.
That's right, Jaleel White.
He's in town filming a movie called Wonder Dogs, a family film due out next year, and the crew was lunching in our fellowship hall. They invited me to take up a plate and join them.
So I did.
Others in the room began talking to me about Jaleel as though he weren't in the room standing next to me...."Do you know who he is?" "He's done a lot since then..."
I said, "I know who he is...This is Jaleel White, who's played a lot of hoops on Inside Stuff with Ahmad Rashad."
He grinned huge and said, "listen to the pastor, he knows what time it is.*"
"I still need to get a picture with you," I said, "so my kids will see how cool this is."
As soon as I can get my cell phone to cooperate, y'all will see my slightly out-of-focus of me and Urkel.
Oh, and before you move along, go back up to the title of this entry and say it again in your best Urkel impersonation.

Update: As Promised...
*I'm not the pastor, just on staff. But I did know what time it was, having just come out of the meeting. I'm unclear what that had to do with me remembering him from Inside Stuff, but I played along.
Wow.. pretty cool. Can't wait to see the picture.

Posted by: Matt at June 22, 2005 12:22 AMWhat's funny is, as I was heading in to the meeting, I overheard someone say, "Hey, did you see Steve Urkel?" and I remember thinking How unfortunate that someone in the church would have the same name as that TV character. And then I totally forgot about it. It was only after I wrote this blog entry that I made the connection.
