A Prayer for the Birthday Girl
Posted by Bryan

Happy Birthday to the United States of America.

May God bless this land, healing what divides us by humbling us who call ourselves His followers and leading us to share His grace instead of our dogma.

May He protect us, from ourselves and from our enemies. May we have the wisdom to distinguish friend from foe, ally from adversary. May we find peace in our time by defeating those who'd seek to kill us, and by showing the world a better way.

May we pursue that which is good and right and edifying, for ourselves and for those who will come behind us. May we honor God because He has blessed us so much by allowing us to live in this time, in this place, with these liberties and freedoms.

May the fireworks and picnics and festivals remind us that our luxuries of today were bought with a price and are easily replaced by tyranny, oppression, and despotism if they are not defended with vigilance and integrity.

May God buttress the hearts and hopes of the many in our country who will celebrate a bittersweet independence day because of having paid the highest price for this freedom, having lost a loved one, or by being separated from a loved one who serves in foreign lands so that ours enjoy today's festivities. May God keep those faithful defenders safe and secure, and comfort their hearts as well.

May God continue to bless America, and in that blessing, may America be a nation where God's Kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven.

And may this be so within me, and through me, according to God's will.

"...may America be a nation where God's Kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven."

Thanks for this prayer Bryan. I must admit I have lost all hope for America. I can't remember when I stopped praying the above quoted portion. Thanks for reminding me to start again.
