I'll Take The Ham, Please
Posted by Bryan

Beliefnet named its most inspiring person for 2005. Her story, if you aren't familiar...

It could have happened to any of us. Nov. 13, 2004, Ruvolo was driving to a niece's recital when her world collapsed. A group of teenagers had stolen a credit card and gone on a joy ride with some of the items they’d bought. One of them thought it would be amusing to throw a frozen turkey into moving traffic. The turkey smashed through Ruvolo’s windshield, shattering her face and nearly killing her. Nevertheless, she showed mercy on the boy who threw the turkey. She told Beliefnet, "I want to see him grow up and become a good part of society."

A tremendous story, no doubt, of the mercy of God reproduced through a person. When I was in college, a drunken fraternity brother threw a frozen turkey at me while we were at a grocery store, and broke my right ring fingertip. It is still comparitively squashed to this day. Not that our stories really compare, but still. And for the record, I forgave Bryan (the turkey tosser), too.

If I had voted, which I didn't, I would have voted either for Alex Scott or Rick Warren. All the also-rans have been compiled for your consideration, at the bottom of the page at the link above.
