So I just watched the Superman trailer.

Why do the movie Lex Luthors have to be portrayed so goofily? I guess Kevin Spacey was cast as the follicly challenged nemesis because the Superman director hadn't seen the actor in anything since his criminal triple play as Verbal Kint in The Usual Suspects, John Doe in Se7en and Hopper in A Bug's Life.

I fear that Spacey has channeled a little too much of his Dr. Evil caricature (do you remember what I'm talking about here?), and it's ultimately going to have a weakening effect on the Superman character, like instead of besting a supervillian by beating Spacey's Luthor, Superman is instead only bullying the crazy guy selling tootsie rolls outside of the grocery store who demands that you call him "Admiral" Shakesy because he picked up a Navy cap at the thrift store on "Fill a Bag for a Buck" day.

I imagine I'll still go because my son will want to see this and I'll do anything to watch a movie that isn't an animated tale about zoo animals fleeing to the wild or wild animals flocking to the zoo. That approach worked last year for Madagascar, and I'm counting on it again this year.
