Idol Idle
Posted by Bryan

Taylor Hicks won 3-2 in our home last night, with Kelli casting the deciding vote. The other votes fell along party lines with the boys voting for Taylor and the girls voting for Katherine.

We didn't call in our votes. So if Taylor loses by one, it's our fault.

By the way, how great is the random absurdity of the "stars in the audience" shots we've been shown this season. By recollection, we now know that not only are the following "celebrities" are fans, but that they have sway to get a ticket to the show:*

  • Ben Stiller
  • Mandy Moore, who apparently didn't understand that you do research before you make a satirical movie, not after.

  • Todd Bridges, who's been surprisingly busy.

  • Roseanne, who unsurprisingly has had plenty of free time.

  • Chris Rock, who must have lost a little street cred by making a cameo. But then again, perhaps I'm taking the same risk by blogging so much about it.

  • Rebecca Romijn with the former fat kid from Stand by Me.
  • The weekly potential for a "Hey! Isn't that Schneider from One Day at a Time?" moment has caused me to watch Idol the same way I watch boxing matches....ignoring what's going on in the center of the screen so I can instead scan the audience for a familiar face.

And just like every other week, tonight we'll queue up the DVR to the Idol finale recording, fast forward to the final two minutes, see who wins, and push "delete."

*not to be confused with Sway, the once-contestant, who wasn't seen in last night's audience shots. Although Kellie Pickler was, looking a lot like snaggle-toothed Jewel. If she and Ben Stiller got married (which I know who is happily married, but let's just pretend, okay), her name would ideally be Kellie Pickler-Stiller, which would cause me to laugh every time I heard it. And Constantine from last season was also in the crowd, looking oh-so like the homeless drifter who won the free white suit for being the 1,000th customer in the second-hand Thrift store, and just may be stalking its night clerk because she made the mistake of paying him a compliment by saying "you clean up pretty well."

I just played your game of searching the audience for supahstars. And I saw David Hasselhoff crying at the announcement that Taylor was the winner.

    It was a priceless moment.

Kelli and I agreed that seeing a bespectacled Michael Knight weep for Taylor was indeed a beautiful thing.

Somewhere, a talking car got its wings.
