Look, Up in the Sky, it's Super Meh
Posted by Bryan

Kelli and I went on Wednesday, and we both agreed, "When will this thing be O-ver?"

There are a couple of things that are slightly spoilerish in the graphs below, but only in a very general way. But if you can read faster than a speeding bullet, you might miss them. So let's continue...

It's a shame that Super Man, for all his bells and whistles, is remarkably short on panache, verve, and je ne sais quoi. You'd think for being quasi-omniscient and omnipotent, he'd have at least enough charisma to light a low-wattage bulb. For all his feats, it so disappointing that he didn't offer any true solar-powered tail whuppins....to anybody.

And awesome casting, too, choosing a Lois Lane who is supposed to be five-years removed from the heartbreak of her life but instead looks like a teenage mom from an ABC after-school special Betty's Bouncing Baby. Bryan Singer should have just brought Margot Kidder back...at least then you'd have had an image of a woman who had really been on the skids after her Kryptonian Love Muffin bugged out on the midnight train to the Nether Galaxies.

Their were, however, twin bright stars in this snore-fest. Lois Lane's boy, who we're not sure is ever named...yeah, he was cool. Seriously. But you have to watch the film to see why. Then way outdoing Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Kevin Spacey fared well in a Dr. Evil sort of way as the follically-challenged nemesis (and don't forget that Spacey actually played Dr. Evil in the film version of the filmed version of the third Austin Powers movie). He was the most interesting character in the film.
