I just discovered that my great-great granduncle John George Leyner was the inventor of the jackhammer.
I promise.
It was originally called the Water Leyner Rock Drill (patent 626,761). He invented several other mining and agricultural implements, including a caterpillar-type tractor.
I have no explanation why we are not wealthier. I suspect the Ingersoll-Rand Company of New York has an answer to that, who purchased the mining machinery manufacturing plant in Littleton, Colorado.
