Our church is having its second annual LifeFEST beginning tomorrow. It will be a pretty neat four days, with a special emphasis each day. We're preceding the four day event with a 24-hour prayer vigil asking God to move mightily.
This morning, I went and prayed with a group of men who were all 70 years old or older. It was humbling and an honor to pray with them. They love God, they love each other, and they love their church.
We spent time praying for the police officers, fire fighters, and EMTs who will be honored on Monday night, thanking God for their willingness to protect and serve. When we were finished, a man named Howard shared how he had first hand experience with losing a beloved family member in the line of duty. I expected him to share about a son or grandchild killed. Instead, he told about how his grandfather was the first fire and police commissioner of Fort Worth, and who was killed by a disgruntled former employee back in 1917. Howard spoke with pride, with deep respect, and with a clear sense of loss for his granddad.
