An Italian photographer took a picture of a bonfire and saw an image of Pope John Paul II. The first link is the story, the second is a close-up side-by-side.
Many are a-tizzy over the image, calling it miraculous and an otherworldly pilgrimage by the formerly-living-but-now-quite-dead Pontiff.
I don't buy into the notion that Jesus is content to show up on sonograms, sheet metal, or seashells. It is the power of imagination that envisions the virgin Mary in your burnt toast, pizza tray, or turtle shell (For the stories behind these and other "visions," go here).
God is not coy about revealing himself, and he leaves no ambiguity in his self-revelation. He has fully disclosed himself in his word, and that revelation is sufficient for all your needs. I want to kindly encourage you to quit looking for Jesus in your cashew jar and seek him instead in the Bible.
By the by, I can't imagine that it would be a good thing for an apparition of the Vicar of Christ to show up in flickering tongues of fire. Not only does the Bible make it clear that the dead don't come back to make heavenly exhortations, but the only mention of fire and religious leaders is not very encouraging.
