Confessionally, I did not predict that plot twist. It could be because I've not read one page of these books, or caught more than a few minutes of any movie as I flip past. Truthfully, I had already thought he was gay because I kept confusing him for Gandalf, and am aware of Ian McKellen's orientation.
It's not because I think Harry Potter is the Devil, or anything like that, that I haven't read or viewed Potter or otherwise imbibed the Rowling Kool-Aid. I'd need to read it one or all the books to have an opinion regarding the devilolatry of it all. I think I just turned all "Grumpy Old Man" when I saw news reports featuring adults dressed like preteen magicians while waiting in line for the books. Potter has never been on our family radar, and consequently, not on our children's either.
I suppose Ms. Rowling, comfortable with enough money for generations of luxury, saw no downside to outing her mentoring wizard. This is her creative right. But parents largely are not happy with the revelation.
An editor from an East Tennessee newspaper pontificates about the new details, and is likewise not in agreement with the decision. Today it is Dumbledore. Before that, Elphaba's closet was opened, to be greeted by a cascade of skeleton bones. Who is next? Malificent?
If so, it will be nothing less than a witch hunt.
